Meal Plan Monday (8/31)

Really? Monday snuck up on me AGAIN?!? I don't know when I became the girl that lives for the weekends ... but that's me. I'm going through a really difficult time at my job (read: I loathe it right now) and it's making life in general very stressful. I'm in a bit of a funk in regards to: blogging, exercising, enjoying the things I enjoy. Luckily I have an amazing and supportive husband who takes very good care of me and tells me not to worry about any chores tonight and to just relax and enjoying watching my soap opera's and talk shows that I record during the day! So, on to the meal plan so I can get back to my couch and tv ... and don't worry --- I'm not going to get too use to the couch again --- I'll be doing C25k W3D1 on Wednesday!!!

Monday - Ceasar Salad

Tuesday - Burritto Bowls

Wednesday - French Onion Pasta

Thursday - Mexican Pizza

Friday - leftover pasta

Saturday - Zucchinni cakes and rice

Sunday - BBQ chicken and scalloped potatoes

Off the couch & running again

I completed week one of the Couch to 5k running plan - it was fairly easy & it felt good to get moving again. It was nice to take it slow and it feels great to slowly be increasing my distance and time. I'm looking forward to getting stronger and increasing my endurance as the weeks progress. We've got a couple of 5k's coming up in the next few months (Sac Valley Aids Walk & Run in September, the Cowtown 5k in October, and the Run to Feed the Hungry in November) which I'm excited about. My goal was to do at least six 5k's this year --- so far we have done two and we have three more planned ... now we just need to find at least one more we want to do.

We have also been doing the 30 Day Shred as often as possible - and let me tell you ... I have a love/hate relationship with this DVD. I love that its a short 20 minutes long - I hate jumping jacks and push ups. I love that I feel great after I have finished it - I hate that its so hard and I feel like I'm going to pass out while doing it. Will I ever be able to do it for 30 days in a row? No, probably not. Am I going to continue to attempt to stick with getting up at 4:45 in the morning and doing it before work? Yes --- but most likely not every single day. Sometimes, I just need to sleep.

And, one last thing before I head out the door for work ... since I was "talking" about the "couch" --- fall TV is getting ready to start again soon! I'm super excited even if my DVR is still 1/2 full of shows from last year that we need to watch --- I'm already planning which new shows to start. And speaking of new shows (at least new to me) ... last night I watched the season opener for Project Runway - I have never watched this show before and let me just say --- I love it. I can't wait for this week!!!

What is your favorite fall TV show??? I don't think I could pick just one. I have a lot(and this isn't even all of them - and doesn't include any of my new ones)!

Meal Plan Monday (8/24)

Is it Monday again? We had a great weekend - the State Fair, my sister-in-law's 2nd bridal shower, an impromptu game night, some rewarding yard work, and some nice relaxation time. We started a "cleaning/chores" plan a couple of weeks ago where we do a couple of chores each week night so that we don't have to spend the bulk of one weekend day cleaning (and by WE, I mean ME since Jon is coaching soccer this year he gets home much later than he use to so I use that time to get stuff done) - so far, its working out perfectly and giving us a lot more time on the weekends to relax :) --- and will fall TV starting soon it will give us more time to watch all our shows! (And, yes, I have added even more to the line up). Hello, my name is The Jesse, and I'm a TV junkie!

Monday - Caesar salad with zucchini bread

Tuesday - Mexican Pizza's (Jon has requested these to be a more frequent than not dinner choice - they are THAT good)

Wednesday - Veggie Stir Fry

Thursday - Creamy Pasta with Shrimp

Friday - leftover pasta

Saturday - Chicken & Rice Bowls

Sunday - BBQ Chicken Pizza

Our new office

A couple of weeks ago we decided that we wanted to paint our office. We have been living in our home for almost a year (October will be a year that we have lived here) and the only room we had painted was our master bedroom. We wanted to have another room painted before Jon's Birthday BBQ so we took a trip to Home Depot to check out paint samples and see if we could decide on a color. Jon originally said he wanted to do a blue color - and I wanted to do a red color. In the end, we decided on Energy Green. It turned out really amazing and we love it! The weekend that we painted we also decided to go ahead and change out the old wood baseboards in the office for new white ones (that we will eventually do in the whole house - every room has the 1980's small wood baseboards and we want white ones throughout) and replace the wood grain and gold ceiling fan with a new white one. We also replaced the light switch cover plates and the electrical outlet cover plates with new white ones (that I love and want to use throughout the whole house). We will eventually replace the metal blinds white white wood ones and paint the entry door white and either replace the closet doors or paint the ones we have white.

We loved the newly painted and re-decorated and on the way to being re-organized office!
The desk area ... the green looks sooo good! This was the day after we painted, right after we moved all the furniture back in but we had not unpacked any of the boxes of books yet.

Our book cases that hold photo frames, Jon's pottery, vases, wedding memorabilia, etc.

In this photo you can see the wallpaper in the hall way that we still need to take down - one of the many other projects we want to do around the house. You can also see some of the new white base boards. We had not put the door back on yet - but its still a brown color - we will eventually paint it white.

This is a good shot of the new white ceiling fan that we replaced - the old one was okay, but it had wood grain blades and gold accents and did not go well with the new room. You can also see the metal closet doors - they are in great shape but an ugly color - we will probably just paint them white to match the new room.

Here is a good shot of the new cover plates - we still need to change out the switches to white ones - but that is a project for another day since the power has to be off (we will probably do the whole house at once).

The more projects we do around the house and yard the more the house is really starting to feel like our home. It's nice to see all the changes we have made and to talk about all the other changes we want to do. We have a lot of projects planned and hopefully we decide on which one to start new soon.

How I've missed thee

Right around this time two years ago, Jon & I started running. We followed The Couch-to-5K Running Plan. Well, technically we followed that plan --- but we never really finished it because as the weeks progressed we ventured off into our own running plans and guidelines. Either way --- I was on my way to becoming a runner again. Fast forward to now ... the pathetic present day where I am lazy and have not run (really run) in weeks. A couple of days ago I found this blog and clicked on the link for Podrunner. I had never heard about Podrunner before. I was intrigued. And I felt some motivation starting to kick in. I knew I have been needing a jump start to get back into exercising. Once I make it part of my routine then it's easier to stick with it --- the hard part is starting the routine. So ... I downloaded a podcast (not the Podrunner one, but a different one) and decided that this was the week I was going to start running again. And that this time I was going to finish the program. Today I did Week 1, Day 1 --- and I really like the podcast. It was nice to just loose myself in the routine and not have to worry about watching a clock or counting. The podcast I downloaded tells you when to switch from walking to running. The music was different (to say the least) but upbeat. I have no idea which podcast I downloaded ... and I'm too lazy to search it out right now as we have less than 1% of memory left on the laptop and opening itunes takes about 1,234,556,789 minutes. I don't have that kind of patience right now. I'm excited about this new journey to becoming a runner (again) and I'm eager for my next run. I've missed running and I'm stoked to be getting back into it again.

Goodbye couch ... hello running shoes!!!

Project 365: 07.24.09 to 08.14.09

We purchased this shoe wallet for our 5k race tomorrow - and to use in all our upcoming races!

Trying to pick colors to paint the rooms in our house

Dental appt. Boo. Enough said.

Jon broke up all the cement in this area and replaced the broken pipe for our sprinkler system today - we'll be laying new cement down in a few days!

Jon laid new dirt over the hole we have had in our backyard all summer. This area use to have a cypress tree and lots of landscaping rocks. Jon and my step dad cut down the tree in the beginning of the summer and then Jon dug up the stump, removed all the old dirt & rocks, and then the cement slab over the broken pipes, replaced the broken pipes, removed the cement divider that use to run along the grass line, and filled the hole. Next we'll plant some grass seed.

Jon's Birthday BBQ

I've been feeling like I'm getting sick for a couple of days - I spent the day drinking lots of this and lots of regular water and hoping I feel better soon.

Still sick. Stayed home from work and spent my day sleeping. Layla the kitty did too.

The ingredients for the Better-than-Sex cake I made for Jon's actual birthday (tomorrow).

10 in 10 update

We are heading into week six of our 10 lbs in 10 weeks challenge ... and so far we have failed miserably. We started out very strong and then I quickly lost my motivation (something I've been loosing a lot of lately). We went to the gym for a few days - then got busy and have not been back in a couple of weeks. We did a few days of the 30 Day Shred but then skipped a few days and have not yet started back up. As of today, I have lost around 1 lb. Pretty sad since we are 1/2 way done with the challenge. But, I'm not going to get discouraged. Instead, I'm going to get moving again and start the 30 Day Shred back up and get back to the gym. The up side to this depressing post is that we have still been eating pretty healthy and measuring our portion sizes and making healthy choices. The past two weeks I found myself standing in front of the vending machine at work again and I know that is a habit I must break ASAP. No more unhealthy snacks. No more excuses.

Jon's Birthday BBQ

Last weekend we had a little BBQ to celebrate Jon's 29th birthday - it was mostly family (including both of my sets of parents who made the trip down to Elk Grove from the Oroville/Chico area's) and some friends. The weather turned out to be perfect and we were able to enjoy a nice afternoon out on our covered patio.

I made lots of yummy food

And yummy cupcakes

We played Ladder Ball

And Wii sports games
We hung out on the patio

Enjoyed the company of good friends

Sang happy birthday and ate the yummy cupcakes

Shared beers, stories, and good times

Had a fire in our new fire pit

And roasted marshmallow's for S'mores

What I've been up to

A lot.

In addition to the new TV stand and desk ... we painted the office and replaced the old wood baseboards in there with new white ones and installed a new white ceiling fan. We replaced the light in the entry way (think 1970's style) with a nice new light. We fixed the broken sprinklers in the back yard, removed two trees, and filled in a hole with dirt (and we will eventually plant some grass seed). We purchased a fire pit for our backyard (one of Jon's birthday presents). We also purchased the Wii Fit and the new Wii sports game (more birthday presents for Jon). We've watched lots of movies ... watched lots of shows on the DVR ... went swimming, a lot, over at Jon's mom's new house, attempted --- week after week --- to get back into a workout/running routine only to fail miserably over and over again. We attempted the 30 Day Shred (and failed miserably at this too) and then vowed to start it again as soon and I'm not sick anymore. We took a mini vacation to South Lake Tahoe and we took a weekend trip to Dublin to visit friends. We got tattoo's!!! We have had busy summer!

In the kitchen ... I've made some pretty great recipes lately. Like ... this Taco Ring and this Mexican Pizza and this Taco Pasta Salad and this Edamame Dip and this Crockpot Macaroni and Cheese THEN this Crockpot Macaroni and Cheese and this Crockpot Baked Ziti AND these absolutely amazing Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes!

I love finding and trying new recipes!!! And I love that I finally decided to start using Google Reader - and I've really been using the "star" feature A LOT on the food related blogs I read! Yum-o!!!

I'm working on this cake tonight (for Jon's birthday tomorrow). I'll let you know how it turns out :)

I have a ton of Project 365 photos to post ... along with some photos of the newly painted office and from Jon's BBQ Birthday Party weekend ... BUT I'm sick and feeling lazy and I think I just want to go lay down until I need to finish Jon's cake for tomorrow SO photos

Adventures in Ikea furniture building!

Lots has been going on lately and we've been very busy! It's been a while since I have posted anything - Meal Plans, Project 365 photos, recipes, general life happenings - and I have lots I want to share ... and I think our recent adventures in Ikea furniture building is a great place to start!

A few weeks ago we headed to our local Ikea store to check out some TV stands and desks. We had recently received an ad that showed a particular TV stand on sale for 1/2 off! That was the kind of deal we were looking for. A trip to Ikea is always an adventure in itself - and when you purchase put-together-yourself furniture from Ikea then the adventure gets to continue at home too! The TV stand we had was cheap. We purchased it from Wal-Mart when we first moved into together was back in December 2005. It looked as cheap as the price tag said it was after all a couple of years and a couple of moves. It worked out pretty good for us when we lived in our first apartment (600 square feet) and our 2nd apartment too. But when we bought our house and then purchased a new 50" plasma TV - it just wasn't working for us any more. The TV was bigger (wider) than the stand and the stand was starting to bow in the middle. We needed a sturdy, solid wood, TV stand that was designed for a TV of our size. So, off to Ikea we went - in search of a solid wood TV stand. And, low and behold, the TV stand that was 1/2 off in the ad WAS in fact a nice Walnut color and SOLID WOOD (which is race for Ikea furniture). So, we knew right then and there that we had found the TV stand of our dreams. Once we had agreed upon the TV stand we ventured over to the desks area. The great thing about Ikea is not only the prices (usually pretty amazing) but also the selection. There were desk galore! We "tested" out a few that we liked ... and after what seemed like forever we decided upon a nice big sturdy desk with a drawer and a cabinet - in a color that matched our bookcase that we had purchased from Ikea about 2 years ago. Score! After deciding on our furniture purchases we walked around the bottom floor and eventually headed to the self-serve sections to pick up our boxes. Once we made it home the real fun began!

Here are some photos of Jon hard at work putting our new TV stand together

And here is the finished NEW TV STAND
After finishing the TV stand - Jon got to work on putting the new desk together too

And the completed desk in the OLD office (I'll be sharing all about the NEW office soon)!

Lots more has been going on so check back very soon for more updates!
