Our four Christmases of 2010

Our Christmas celebrations began on Wednesday the 22nd.  My dad & step-mom drove down to spend the day with us.  We played games, ate sweet treats, drank martini’s, opened gifts, watched a movie & ate Pasta Fagioli for dinner.  IMG_1627IMG_1617 IMG_1570IMG_1714

Our 2nd Christmas celebration was suppose to be with Jon’s dad & his girlfriend on Thursday the 23rd but it ended up being a big dinner party so we rescheduled for Christmas morning at their home.

Our 3rd Christmas celebration was on Friday the 24th ~ Christmas Eve ~ at Jon’s mom’s house with his sister & her husband.  We brought Lucy with us and she got to hang out & play with Jon’s mom’s dog, Odie, all day.  We snacked on chips & dip and cookies, played lots of games, ate take-n-bake pizza and Grandma Gene’s Famous Award Winning Chili, opened gifts & lounged around all day long. We woke up Saturday Dec 25th ~ Christmas morning ~ and exchanged stock stuffer gifts.  I gave Jon an ipod shuffle along with a few other small things and he stuffed my stocking full of misc little things and a little red box with white ribbon that held a beautiful pair of pearl earrings!   IMG_2018IMG_2047

After we exchanged gifts and ate Baked Oatmeal for breakfast we headed out to Jon’s dad’s house for a redo of Christmas #2 and to exchange gifts .IMG_2070
Then we headed back home to get ready for my mom & step-dad’s arrival.  While Jon cleaned up around the house I prepared my sauce for Lasagna and once they arrived we were able to relax and spend the afternoon with them sipping champagne and exchanging gifts.  IMG_2120IMG_2147
On my mom’s side of the family we draw names ~ this year I drew my brother’s girlfriend and Jon drew my step-dad.  I also gave my mom a few small gifts and she gave us two lighted topiaries for our front porch.  My nephew drew my name so my mom brought me his gift to me ~ a tiered shelf ~ and Jon put it together while we sat around and watched part of A Christmas Story.  After dinner we watched The Sound of Music, which my dad had gifted me earlier in the week.IMG_2171 IMG_2213

We’ll be spending New Years with my brother & his family since we were not able to spend time with them during Christmas week.

Meal Plan Monday {Dec 27}

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas ~ this really is the most wonderful time of year.  We celebrated many times over the course of the last few days with our families and enjoyed the time we got to spend with them.

This weeks menu is a little sparse as some days are yet TBD since I’ll be on vacation again at the end of the week and its NYE on Friday :)

The last few days have been anything but healthy around these parts so the few meals I do have planned this week are pretty standard.  Sometimes my sweet tooth gets the best of me … and I’m not looking forward to stepping on the scale this week for weigh in.

Monday ~ Black Bean & Corn Skillet

Tuesday ~ Chicken Pot Pie Pasta

Wednesday ~ leftovers

Thursday through Saturday ~ TBD

Sunday ~ Spaghetti with semi-homemade marinara sauce

Merry Christmas

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas & hoping all your Christmas dreams come true!

Christmas Flashbacks

Jon & I started dating in early 2005 and by the end of the year we had moved in to our first apartment together.  We didn’t spend that first Christmas together as I went home to be with my family and I’ve searched all my photo disks & files and can not find any photos of a tree or any decorations from 2005 {and if we did set up a tree it was probably my tiny little fake tree that my grandma had given me that I use to put up in my apartment(s) in college}.  That December was busy as I had recently quit my long time restaurant managing position and started working at the bank and we moved in the rain.  If I ever find any photos of that first Christmas, I’ll come back and post them.

In December of 2006 we were still living in our first tiny apartment in downtown Sac.2006us 2006

In 2007 we were living in an apartment in Elk Grove and didn’t end up putting any ornaments on our tree because we had a new kitten {Layla} that we were concerned would try to climb the tree or play with the ornaments {she never even touched it}.

In January 2008 we got engaged and this year was our first Christmas in our first home.  We were still skeptical about if Layla would play with ornaments on the tree so we only decorated the top half!

2009 was our first married Christmas and our 2nd year in our first home!
