Fourth of July Fireworks

Or also known as the post where I show you what I’ve learned to do with my DSLR so far :)

On the Fourth of July I made a last minute decision to bring my Canon EOS Rebel T1i and since I have so much still to learn about using it I decided to Google some basic info for taking photos of fireworks.  Once I had the settings figured out, I grabbed my tripod and out the door we went to find a place to park and watch the local fireworks show.  We had originally planned to walk the short distance to the local park {where the fireworks are let off} but decided against it at the last minute due to the warm weather and a lack of wanting to walk home in the dark after the show.  Some of the roads were already closed and the traffic around the park/our neighborhood was awful.  Luckily we ended up finding a great spot with an awesome view of the show just on the other side of the freeway!

Once we found a parking spot we set up our chairs and I set up the tripod and played around for a little while.  We brought Lucy with us and she was such a good girl both while we were waiting for the show to start and during the fireworks.  She was more concerned with watching all the kids running around than anything else!

While we were waiting for the show to start I snapped this photo with “The Rebel” {my nickname for my DSLR} which I love:

Once the fireworks started it took me a few minutes to figure out the best settings but once I got everything figured out, I ended up with some pretty good photos.

Here are a few of my favorites:

I’m actually signed up for my first photography class in a couple of weeks.  Its a one day class called “Beginning DSLR Photography” and I’m excited to learn more about my camera, and how to use it.

All photos were taken with my Canon EOS Rebel T1i with my kit lens {EFS 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS} unless otherwise noted.
