Monthly Recap: June 2011

In my May Monthly Recap I said “I have never felt stronger as a runner than I do right now” and I’m still feeling this way :)

In June my free pass to the gym reached it expiration so I decided to join, thankfully at a discounted rate and with no initiaion fees!  I also have been running consistently 3 days a week and cross training 3-4 days a week with a mixture of cardio and strength training.  I’m still working on building my running base and in July I’ll start officially training for the Urban Cow Half marathon in October and the California International Marathon in December.

In June I walked a 5k race with Lucy and the husband on a very rainy and cold Saturday morning and I raced a 10k and set a new PR at a race that is walking distance from our house.  It doesn’t look like we’ll be joining a training group for the fall races this year due to budget restrictions which is both good and bad for different reasons.  While I will definitely miss our running buddies and coaches, I am looking forward to running in some new places again instead of the same old route every Saturday with the group.  Luckily a lot of our running buddies are local and run a lot of the same races as we do and some of them are even running the CIM so I’m sure our training paths will cross often.

I remained committed to WW throughout the month of June and I’ve lost 8.4lbs since joining in May which means I’ve lost over 5% of my starting weight so far!

The husband and I painted our kitchen/dining room and we’re looking forward to completing more projects around our home this summer.  Our garden is growing and we’ve already begun to enjoy some fresh garden zucchini.  We also attended a concert at the beginning of the month and enjoyed a fun date night out.  We are looking forward to a lot more fun summer events in the next couple of months :)

I’m still doing a lot of reading.  I finished What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami, Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger and The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.  Currently I’m reading Kara Goucher’s Running For Women:  From First Steps to Marathons by Kara Goucher and The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin.  I’m still really enjoying the running related books I’m reading while at the gym and I’ve got a few more in my to-read stack but I’ve been missing the Chick Lit lately so I think I’ll be starting a love novel next :)

I hope to finish up some in-progress craft projects during the month of July as well as some general organization.  Lucy will be completing her intermediate training classes in July and we hope to take her on her first trip to the ocean soon.  My nephew is getting married in July and I’m very excited to be there to help him celebrate on this very special day :)
