This race was the first in the four part series hosted by The Running Zone for 2012.  This was my first “running” race since my injury.  {I walked two 5ks after my injury last fall that I was already registered for and didn’t want to miss.}  My goal is to, once again, participate in all four of these fun runs this year to obtain another All-Series Participant award.  {This race was my 10th fun run in a row and I received the All-Series Participant award in 2010 & 2011 along with the husband.}

It was a little chilly on race morning and there was some fog hanging out in the area.  But by the time the race started at 8am the fog had started to lift.  As always we got to the race location about a half hour before the start so we had time to use the port-o-potty and warm-up while chatting with fellow running buddies and friends.

I ran with two of my running buddies, Kat & Rene, whom I trained with for CIM last summer/fall before my injury.  It was so wonderful to run along side them again!  We lined up with the crowd and shortly after 8am, after some course instructions, the race started.  I had mentioned that I just wanted to run without any really goals or plan in mind except to try to keep negative splits the whole time.

We started out nice and easy and our first mile came in at just under 11 minutes.  We continued to pick up the pace while chatting and the time flew by.  Even though I had used the bathroom I felt the need to go again right before the race started but there was no time.  During the race I felt like I was racing against my bladder and I think that really contributed to me picking up the pace towards the end.

I felt really good both during and after the race, even after running 4 miles the day before!  And I know I would have pushed harder if I would have been running solo BUT I was so happy to have my running buddies by my side that I didn’t even care what my finish time was.  I feel like I am getting back into shape and that my endurance is building back up.  And that, my friends, is a GREAT feeling :)
